You have a right to open the packaging and inspect the contents without losing your right to return the goods. In most cases you can also return goods even after you have used them, although any depreciation in value will be deducted from your refund. No refund will be given if using the goods renders them unfit for resale. If the trader failed to inform you of your right to cancel before you placed the order and has not provided details of what the right entails in the terms and conditions, for example, the trader has no right to deduct anything from your refund on the grounds of depreciation.
Please remember that you cannot return:
- sound or video recordings or software delivered in sealed packaging, such as sealed CDs and DVDs, after the seal has been broken, and
- goods that are delivered in sealed packaging which for health or hygiene reasons cannot be returned after the packaging has been opened (such as contact lenses, moisturising creams or medications).
