If a warranty is offered on the car, check:
- what its validity period is
- what its coverage is
- what its geographical coverage is
- who is responsible for making any eventual warranty repairs
This information should be given in the warranty, but also make sure by asking either the party issuing the warranty or the Finnish importer whether warranty repairs on the car can be made in Finland.
A warranty does not void your statutory rights
A warranty is a voluntary added protection. Not having a warranty or a warranty expiring does not affect your statutory rights. A warranty is binding upon the party issuing the warranty, as specified in its terms and conditions.
Sometimes a buyer may see a warranty statement on a car windscreen but the sales agreement will state that the warranty is void because the car has been sold abroad. Make sure that you get a warranty certificate if a warrant is offered.
