The DiscoverEU application – young people born in 2005 can get a free travel card to Europe

The European Commission has launched the DiscoverEU autumn call, thanks to which 36,000 young people will receive a free travel pass to explore Europe for up to 30 days during 1 March 2024 and 31 May 2025. The call is open to applicants born in 2005. The application round will end on 18 October at 13:00 (Finnish time).

Young people are invited to apply on the European Youth Portal, where they have to answer quiz questions on general knowledge about the European Union and other EU initiatives targeting young people. The Commission will offer travel passes to applicants following their ranking, until the available tickets run out.

The European Commission launched DiscoverEU in June 2018, and more than 1 million candidates have applied for 248,000 available travel passes since then. The Commission encourages young people to choose sustainable travel by rail.
