A fee-paying dating service may end up costing more than you thought, and cancelling your membership may be tricky.
The European Consumer Centre constantly receives enquiries from consumers who have joined online dating services. They had thought the service was free, and were surprised to be charged membership fees. They also encountered problems when trying to cancel their memberships.
If you intend to join a fee-paying dating club, check the terms and conditions before you join. Look at the contract terms at the company’s website and check at least the following:
- How much does it cost to join?
- How can you cancel your membership?
- How can you contact the company behind the dating service?
Keep copies of the dating service advertisement and membership terms. You may need them later.
If you encounter problems, contact Consumer advisory services at 071 873 1901, or in Swedish at 071 873 1902. In case of a foreign service provider, contact the European Consumer Centre .
