MATKA 2015, the largest travel industry event in Northern Europe, fills the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre during 15 – 18 January 2015. First day of the exhibition is open only for travel trade professionals. More than 1000 exhibitors from 80 different countries are present.
This year, the European Consumer Centre Finland does not have a stand at the Travel Fair. Anyhow, we remind all visitors that the right to cancel or change a booking only applies if the terms and conditions specifically state this. Read through the terms and conditions carefully and keep in mind that making changes to a booking usually carries an extra charge.
Many of the exhibitors and travel agencies or airlines have offers online available to non-visitors as well. If you book holidays or flights online, make sure that the information entered into booking forms is correct. Correcting a misspelled name on an airline ticket, for example, can prove costly, as making any changes to a booking usually carries an extra charge. Sometimes making changes is not possible at all. When buying online, the best way to safeguard your money is to pay by credit card.
Remember also, that travel agencies based outside the EU may not offer the same level of consumer protection as European companies.
The European Consumer Centre helps you if you have problems with a holiday / flights bought from a trader in another EU Country. You can also contact consumer advisory services if you have problem with a Finnish travel agency/ airline etc.
