Galactor, game by Consumer Agency, nominated for Europe’s best consumer campaign prize

In cooperation with the European Consumer Centre Network, the European Commission has initiated a competition to find the best European consumer campaigns of the year 2007. The top three campaigns will be awarded prizes in Brussels on Monday,March 10. Galactor – The Codebreakers, a game developed by the Finnish Consumer Agency, has been chosen to represent Finland in this contest.

The game, which invites the player to ponder the dangers and risks in the world of the web and mobile phones, is aimed at over 16-year-olds and can be accessed at the Consumer Agency’s home page and at http://www.galactor.org.

Finland ’s entrant was selected by a jury of Tuula Sario ( Finnish Consumers’ Association), Maija Puomila (Finnish Consumer Agency), Kaarina Sinerkari (Helsingin Sanomat), Marjatta Hautala (European Commission Representation Finland) and Leena Lindström (European Consumer Centre, Finland). Other candidates running for Finland’s best consumer campaign award were WWF’s mobile phone recycling campaign, Finnish Customs’ trademark piracy campaign, SFS-Ympäristömerkintä’s Swan ecolabel campaign, the web site for ethical consumption by the Finnish Consumers’ Association, the European Union’s climate change campaign and Taloudenhallinnan neuvottelukunta’s (Advisory Board on Finance Management) Kalliit kulissit campaign.
