Instructions for cancelling a contract

The vendor must inform you in the order confirmation what procedure you should follow if you wish to cancel the order. It is advisable to follow these instructions.

However, it is best to make a cancellation in writing, for example by e-mail, and to print out a copy for yourself. Although failing to collect goods from the post office or returning them is in itself considered cancellation in several countries, including Finland, this is not the case throughout the EU. Therefore a written cancellation is the surest option.

It is also a good idea to find out how the vendor wants the product returned and to agree concerning the costs of returning it. For example, even if a product has been delivered to you by courier, it is not advisable to return it the same way unless the vendor has explicitly mentioned this possibility or you have checked that it is all right to do so. In general, the least expensive appropriate way is the best.

You do not need to explain why you are cancelling, unless you want to give a reason as feedback.

When you return an item, keep the package card and the postal receipt. That way, you will be able to prove that you have returned the product if you need to.

When you cancel, it is a good idea to mention the way in which you want your money and any postal charges returned to you. If you want the money paid to your bank account, it is advisable to state the IBAN and SWIFT codes.

The vendor is obliged to return the money within 30 days. If the money is not returned in time, complain. See: How to make a complaint. When Finnish law is applicable, you are entitled to demand interest as specified in the Interest Act if the time limit is not observed.

If you have paid by credit card, inform the credit company of your demand for repayment. However, you cannot receive more from the credit provider than you have paid through that channel.
