Unpaid Norwegian road tolls being collected from consumers

The European Consumer Centre has been contacted by consumers who have received from an English firm a notice of a penalty charge for not paying a road toll. The consumers in question had not paid a road toll in Norway in summer 2006 as required.

The notice gives the impression that consumers can only pay the penalty charge by disclosing their credit card number to the collection agency. However, consumers are entitled to receive a bill and an account number to which they can direct payment. Ask for the account number through the e-mail address (appeals@epcplc.com) or fax number (+ 44 0 870 4322 812) disclosed at the backside of the notice.
